Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Julie K. Young is an Associate Professor in the Department of Wildland Resources and Director of the Berryman Institute at Utah State University, where she completed a PhD in Wildlife Sciences in 2006. Between 2010-2022, she served as Supervisory Research Wildlife Biologist with the USDA-WS-National Wildlife Research Center (Logan Field Station). Dr. Young’s research program focuses on the behavior, ecology, and management of carnivores and beavers, with an aim to reduce negative human-wildlife interactions to facilitate coexistence. In addition to her extensive experience in Utah and other western states, Dr. Young has experience studying carnivores in South Africa and Ethiopia and addressing global human-wildlife conflict issues, including serving as the head of a U.S. delegation on international humane trapping standards.
