Biographical Sketch:
I am a Research Associate IV at the University of Rhode Island’s Department of Natural Resources Science. I received my M.S. in Landscape Ecology from URI in '94 and have been working in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) since 1991. During this time, I have helped work on GIS related projects for agencies such as the National Park Service, the National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I have given numerous presentations regarding information technology at regional and national meetings. My topics include internet mapping and serving data over the internet, viewshed modeling, automated mapping vegetation using digital orthoimagery, and using powerful geospatial data tools. Currently, I oversee project development and implementation for the URI Environmental Data Center’s National Park Service Field Technical Support Center. I bring over 28 years of managing and manipulating spatial data for URI’s Environmental Data Center, especially working on projects for northeastern National Parks. I also interact with regional and national GIS leadership for the National Park Service. My additional work includes data management, data mining, GIS training, GPS data collection, metadata training, developing data standards, LiDAR data processing, and investigating technical tools for geospatial analysis. Away from home, I have worked with a coastal management agency in Ecuador to establish a GIS and have trained geologists from the Azores, Portugal on how to use GIS to model areas vulnerable to landslides.
