Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Philip Orton is a Research Associate Professor of ocean engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.  He earned his PhD in physical oceanography from Columbia University in 2010, and specializes in coastal physical oceanography, storm surges, flood risk assessment, air-sea interaction, and coastal meteorology.  He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in peer-reviewed journals and several Op-Eds in newspapers such as the New York Times Sunday Edition.  He is a member of the New York City Panel on Climate Change, the New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance Science and Technical Advisory Panel, and was a contributing author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report.  Professor Orton has directed research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, NOAA, NASA, USGS and the National Parks Service, as well as state, city and NGO funding sources.
