Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Guoying Dong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver. He earned his Ph.D. from McGill University in 2019, where he developed a simulation platform to support the design of lattice structures fabricated by additive manufacturing (AM). Following his doctorate, Dr. Dong served as a Research Fellow at the Singapore University of Technology and Design for two years before joining CU Denver in November 2021.
Dr. Dong's research interests encompass design for additive manufacturing, numerical modeling, and artificial intelligence. He has focused on optimizing lattice structures to enhance mechanical performance, particularly for aerospace and automotive applications requiring high stiffness-to-weight ratios. His work includes developing simulation models and optimization algorithms for solid-lattice hybrid structures.
In addition to his research, Dr. Dong has contributed to the academic community with numerous publications, amassing over 2,200 citations. His current work at CU Denver's Intelligent Design and Manufacturing Lab focuses on the intelligent design and manufacturing of advanced materials and structures, integrating artificial intelligence to fully leverage the capabilities of additive manufacturing.
Education:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University (Montreal, Canada), granted 2019
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University (Xi'an, China), granted 2015
