Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Butterfield is broadly trained in ecology, with particular expertise in dryland ecosystems. He couples laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments with "big data" approaches (e.g. GIS, biodiversity databases) to conduct basic science on the distribution of biodiversity, as well as applied science for restoration and conservation. He has worked extensively with the BLM, BOR, USGS and tribal agencies to provide science-based decision support for upland and riparian ecosystem management.
Education:
PhD in Plant Biology from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ), granted 2009
BA in Biology from Rice University (Houston, TX), granted 2004
